A Little Surfing History in Hawaii: Known as the "Sport of Kings" and an ancient Hawaiian tradition, and a great part of Hawaiian culture. The Hawaiian chiefs (ali'i) demonstrated their surfing skill by riding big waves on boards as long as 24 feet. Surfing was documented in 1779, by Lt. James King who sailed the Discovery ship.

It’s been over 50 years since the making of the Boardshort, which started in the surf community. Boardshorts were made so that they are comfortable and easy to move around for the surf rider. There are 3 types of surf shorts: Boardshorts/ Boardies-designed specificially for surfing! Fixed waist band, tie lace or popper buttons, loose baggy fit from lower hip down for movement when surfing. ; Baggies – elasticized waist draw string or lace tie some Velcro fly and side/rear pocked. Meshed inner liner orpant. Loose fit greater chance of you losing them. ; and Half Jams – hybrid surf shorts with a waistband that is fixed in the front and elastic across the back this provides waist flexibility, lace tie and Velcro fly.
