Hawaiian Shirts & Dresses Gallery - December '03 (complete)
Sondra Barker, Lindsay Hayes, and Stacey Hayashi laughing it up on the beach on a typical day in paradise. From left to right is the White Hibiscus Panel full-length spaghetti Hawaiian dress, Royal Coast full-length Hawaiian dress, and Flower Fusion full-length tank dress.
Sondra and Dave in matching 100% rayon Bamboo Orchids resort Hawaiian dress and Hawaiian shirt. The Big Island of Hawaii is a big producer of orchids for the state. Orchids are also good for making leis because orchids are durable and last longer on the lei than many other flowers. Matching Hawaiian shirts and Hawaiian dresses are common with couples.
Hawaii State Representative Jon Riki Karamatsu joins the beach party with Sondra Barker and Dave Randall. Most of Hawaii's government officials and business people wear Hawaiian shirts as everyday work attire. Fridays are often referred to as "Aloha Friday" a day when people would make an effort to wear their favorite aloha shirt or aloha dress to work.
Sondra in matching capri pants and one-size-fits-most halter top. Dave in matching Hawaiian shirt. This picture was shot as the sun began to set on this Hawaiian winter day (75 degrees at 5:30pm).
What can be better than a leisurely afternoon on a beach in Hawaii? Here the gang relaxes on teh beach in style in their Hawaiian shirts and Hawaiian dresses. The valley in the background is Manoa Valley, well-known as the home of the University of Hawaii in modern times and a place of royalty back in ancient times. One of the advantages of going to school or living in Hawaii is that almost no matter where you are, you are only minutes away from the beach.
Like a rainbow, Hawaiian shirts and dresses span the spectrum of colors from red to blue and everything in between. The cream colored bamboo Hawaiian shirt in the middle is a popular shirt for people planning a beach wedding. A recent trend is for shirts to take on a softer look of the shirt on the left, but the bold bright shirts like those on the right never go out of style.
Lindsay wears this matching capris pants and halter top with grace an elegance. Visible in the background is the world-famous Diamond Head. Visitors can hike up Diamond Head via a trail located inside the crater all the way to the tip top. The summit of Diamond Head offers an unobstructed view more than half the island of Oahu. Because of its close proximity to Waikiki and the relative ease of its hiking trail, Diamond Head is one of the most frequently hiked destinations in Hawaii.
Lindsay and Dave joke around between shots. Lindsay found a very dead and dried up sand crab and immediately proclaimed, "That is the best looking dried up dead sand crab I have ever seen!" That brought out the schoolyard kid in Dave who did what all boys feel compelled to do when they possess scary things in the presence of pretty girls.
Lindsay, who had never modeled before, takes direction on her next pose by looking at pictures in a magazine. She is told "I want you to try and make like the girl in this picture". She replies, "You mean,...."
"....like this?" Lindsay is a hair stylist for a salon in Honolulu and had not done any professional modeling before but has an uncanny ability to nail each shot on the first try. She is part Native American Ute and recently moved to Hawaii from Dallas.
The halter tops can be worn with matching bottoms or regular pants. Here Lindsay wears just the top with her casual capris.
Sondra is wearing an engineered print short Hawaiian tank dress. The picture on the dress goes from one side to the other without repeating.
Sondra is wearing a bottom design Beach Parrot dress. It is commonly believed that parrots live in Hawaii. While it is true that some people's pet parrots have escaped and now fly wild in Hawaii, there are no indigenous parrots in Hawaii.
Lindsay enjoys the laid back lifestyle of Hawaii. In just a few months, she learned how to body board and surf in the little town of Haleiwa on the famous North Shore of Hawaii. Here she wears a red Hawaiian ruffle dress.
